| General Information: | The City of Newport Municipal Court is responsible for the processing of citations and complaints issued by the Newport Police, the City Attorney, and by private citizens within the City of Newport. The majority of cases heard in Municipal Court are traffic infractions. The Municipal Court staff can answer questions about court schedule, bail amounts, and other administrative matters but cannot give legal advice. If you need legal advice, you should consult an attorney. For help finding an attorney, call the Oregon State Bar's Lawyer Referral Service at (503) 620-0333 or refer to your local Yellow Pages. |

| Proper Courtroom Etiquette: | • Shirt and shoes are required • Caps and hats must be removed upon entering the Courtroom • No weapons (firearm, knife, or any device/substance which may cause harm) • Food and drink are not allowed in the Courtroom |
| While Court is in Session: | • No loud talking • Pagers, cell phones, etc. must be turned off • Audio and video equipment recording is not permitted without the Judge's prior authorization |
| Payment Options: | Cash, Check, Money Order. You will not be sent a bill or statement. It is your responsibility to send payment to the Court by the due date. Failure to pay a fine will result in suspension of your driving privileges with an additional charge of $15 added to the original amount of each docket. Past due accounts may be turned over to a collection agency who will, in turn, add 25% to the amount. |
