Parking Enforcement

The Newport Police Department Parking Enforcement's charge is to educate the community and enforce the rules for parking in the areas of the Bayfront, Nye Beach, downtown, and other areas throughout Newport. A seasonal Parking Enforcement Officer patrols Newport during the months of May through September. Patrol Officers also enforce parking restrictions throughout the year, as well as the Community Service Officer.

Parking is prohibited in streets immediately adjacent to yellow-marked curbs, and parking or stopping is prohibited in streets or other public areas immediately adjacent to red-marked curbs, except as needed to comply with traffic signs and signals or when traffic does not permit continued movement. No other sign or wording is needed to make the prohibition effective. The prohibitions established apply if the yellow or red markings are visible, even though faded or partially obliterated.

Public areas include private property open to the public designated or required as a fire lane. Curbs may be painted red on public or private property only to indicate a fire lane or other area where parking and stopping is prohibited. Parking or standing other than for permitted loading and unloading is prohibited in streets immediately adjacent to green-marked curbs, and parking or standing other than for permitted passenger loading and unloading is prohibited in streets adjacent to white-marked curbs.

You may receive a citation if you park your vehicle in an improper manner or prohibited area. The bail for parking violations ranges from $10 to $1,000. For information on paying parking citations, please contact the Municipal Court Clerk Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at 541-574-0616.

The Newport Police Department has expanded volunteer opportunities by utilizing NPD Volunteers for Disabled Parking Enforcement. This group of volunteers issue citations to individuals that have parked in a disabled space without a permit. They have become a valuable asset to the Newport community and assist with implementing the community policing philosophy.
