Youth Basketball Announcements

As many people may have noticed the format of this years youth basketball has been a little different from previous years. I assure you there is method in my madness: (read full article here)

Score Keepers Needed!

During basketball season we are in constant need of parents or other volunteers to help keep the scorebook and scoreboard during our games on Saturday mornings. Don't worry if you have no experience. It is fairly simple and we would be more than willing to teach you everything you need to know.

Our Youth Basketball Leagues serve kids from 1st though 6th grade. Our 1st and 2nd graders play games against other Newport teams. Then once they reach the 3rd grade they play in our league that includes teams from Siletz, Toledo, Eddyville and Lincoln City.

Our Goal :

It is the goal of the City of Newport to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children to build their bodies, minds, and characters.  Sports have the ability to provide a wide range of physical and mental benefits. As coaches, it is our responsibility to do our best to ensure that all our players are able to experience these benefits.  These ideals we stand by will not be sacrificed in the name of winning.

Sportsmanship & Discipline

It is important that players understand respect at an early age. Our coaches are asked to take steps to ensure their players show respect towards officials, teammates, opponents, spectators, and other coaches. This includes being on time for practice and games, refraining from the use of foul language, not talking or bouncing balls while the coach is teaching, and showing general good sportsmanship to all other athletes. Appropriate action will be taken if a player demonstrates these or any other inappropriate behaviors.  Although the league is dedicated to keeping playing time as equal as possible, players displaying unacceptable behavior may have their playing time decreased at the coach’s discretion. In our opinion, having good enthusiasm and a good attitude is most important.
