Mommy & Me - Ages 2-4

Thursdays: 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.

$28.00/month (beginning Jan. 5), drop ins$10.00 each if space is available

Mommy & Me (or Daddy & Me) is a parent/tot class designed to increase coordination and motor development through a variety of activities in which the parent gets in on the fun!

The Newport Recreation Center has a new Youth Gymnastics instructor!  Coach Laurie Schembri was involved in competitive gymnastics and has taught gymnastics for 10 years, teaching 200 children of all ages and abilities from recreational classes to competitive team classes.  Her goal as a gymnastics coach is to provide a safe and fun environment for children where they will gain self-esteem and confidence through the many activities of gymnastics.

 

Homeschool/Youth Gymnastics - Ages 5 and up

Mondays: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

$30.00/month (beginning Jan. 9), drop ins $10.00 each if space is available

The 8 and older class will introduce the basics in gymnastics form, with safety being a priority.  Gymnasts will be taught Level 1 routines from the Junior Olympic Program and progress to level 2 when they reach the capability.

Teen Strength Training

Sessions: January 17, 18, 19, 24, 26

March 13, 14, 15, 20, 22

3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Ages 12-14    $25.00/session

Instructor: Shannon Rackowski

 

Students will learn proper body form, breathing, safety, and gym etiquette.  With completion and passing of this course, young teens will be given a certificate that entitles them to usage of the gym and cardio areas without parental supervision.

 

Advanced Teen Strength Training

Sessions: February 14, 16, 21, 23 20, 25, 27

April 10, 12, 17, 19

3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Ages 12-14    $25.00/session

Instructor: Shannon Rackowski

 

Prerequiste for attendance in this class is completion and passing of Teen Strength Training.

 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Tuesdays &Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Ages 13 - 70

$25.00/month or $5.00 drop in

Instructor:  Jonathan Sparks

 

Multiple martial arts (MMA), grappling techniques, submission holds, and more will be taught during this two-hour class.  Jonathan Sparks is a former student of the Gracie Family and a black belt of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  For more information go to www.jitsu.biz or call 351-8007.  

 

Tae Kwon Do

Mondays & Wednesdays

Youth:  5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Adults:  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Ages 7 and up   $30.00/month

Instructor:  Tim Anderson

 

Tae Kwon Do emphasizes self-control and self-discipline.  It is an excellent way to garner confidence and a positive self-image.  Students routinely excel in the classroom and extracurricular activities because they learn to focus their energy and center their minds.  If you are interested in the martial arts, you are encouraged to attend a class and meet with instructor Tim Anderson prior to registering for the class. 

                                            

Indoor Park

Tuesdays & Fridays    9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
$2.00 drop in per child

                                                                               

Join a parent/child play group atmosphere to provide a place for young children to play and be active inside.  The play equipment is designed for walking through 4 years of age. 

 

Friday Night "Date Night Child Care"

Fridays 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

$1.50/half hour/child

Ages 3 - 12 years

The Newport Recreation Center is pleased to announce the addition of Friday evening child care.  Children can play board or computer games, do puzzles, or work on their homework.  There will be a variety of recreational activities including movies and popcorn.  We have activities for all!  Drop ins welcome.  Space is limited; first come first served.         

 

"School's Out" After School Program

September 6 - June 14

3:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Grades Kindergarten - 6th

$90.00/month or $7.00/day (does not include non-school days)

 

Non-School Days

7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

$11.00/half day (up to 5 hours) or $20.00/full day

 

This is a supervised program offered every school day and on non-school days for children enrolled in kindergarten through 6th grades.  On school days, the school bus will transport children from Sam Case to the Newport Recreation Center.  Activities include art, crafts, games, storytelling, and gym activities such as scooter boards, basketball, soccer and teamwork activities.  For more information, please contact the Rec.
