During these parent/child classes, participants will develop gross motor skills and practice following directions. Class will focus on balance, coordination, flexibility and fun! Students should wear loose shorts and t-shirt or leotard, no socks, no jewelry, with long hair pulled back.
Julie Gamache is a mother of two sons. She moved to Newport from Corvallis two and a half years ago. Julie was involved in gymnastics for 10 years as a child.

Mommy & Me Gymnastics is a great way to get your little one in an organized program and have quality interaction with your child at a crucial point in their development. Children will work on stretching, listening, and of course, having fun! Each little one will learn at their own pace using normal gymnastics equipment.
Twisters Tots Gymnastics
Ages 5 & 6 - Thursdays, 3:15 - 4:00 p.m.

Twister Tots is a great way for parents to introduce their children to the sport of gymnastics. Children will learn to listen and follow directions, along with gymnastics skills. The vault, floor beam, wedge, springboard, and mini trampoline will be used. All children will start at basic level and advance at their own pace. Children who have already had gymnastics will be able to advance from their current level.
Twisters Tweens & Teens Gymnastics
Ages 7-11 - Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:00 - 5:15 p.m.
Ages 12-18 - Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:15 - 6:30 p.m.

Coach Cagle will work with all skill levels to improve form, balance, and flexibility. Basic and some advanced gymnastics will be taught. The vault, floor, wedge, springboard, beam, and small trampoline will all be used. These classes are for boys and girls.
Coach Cagle has 17 years of experience teaching gymnastics. She started taking gymnastics at the age of 12 and soon started coaching younger kids. After her gym closed, she set up her own program through a private school and later was hired as a coach through Crook County Parks and Recreation where she coached for nine years until her family relocated to Newport this past spring.

All equipment and bait are provided. Please leave your fishing gear at home. No fishing license is required. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend (no adult fishing at event site.) This event is held at the Big Creek Reservoir. There will only be disabled parking available. All others must use the free shuttle. Shuttle buses depart frequently from Wal-Mart, Safeway, and Sam Case Elementary parking lots. Thanks to our many sponsors, donors, and volunteers, and special thanks to Mid-Columbia Bus Company for shuttles that make this possible.

The 2010 Summer Activities Program for ages 3-6 will be held at the Newport Recreation Center and ages 7-12 will gather at the Clubhouse at Frank Wade Park. There will be plenty of pool time, as well as a variety of activities including field trips, sports, crafts, games, outdoor activities, and weekly library day. The children will be divided into groups according to age in order to create a more suitable program of activities for each group. A sack lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided. Parents will need to provide a healthy morning snack.

Students will learn proper body form, breathing, safety, and gym etiquette. With completion and passing of this course, young teens will be given a certificate that entitles them to usage of the gym and cardio areas without parental supervision.
Beginner’s Youth Sailing Class

Space is Limited!
This is a comprehensive week-long course that introduces students to the basics of sailing. All participants must be confident swimmers, but no sailing or boating experience is necessary. All equipment will be provided. The course will take place at Ollala Lake and/or the Toledo docks. There will be no transportation provided, so parents must make their own arrangements for dropping kids off in the morning and picking them up in the evening.

Ages 13 - 70

Instructor: Jonathan Sparks

Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do emphasizes self-control and self-discipline. It is an excellent way to garner confidence and a positive self-image. Students routinely excel in the classroom and extracurricular activities because they learn to focus their energy and center their minds. If you are interested in the martial arts, you are encouraged to attend a class and meet with instructor Tim Anderson prior to registering for the class.

Join a parent/child play group atmosphere to provide a place for young children to play and be active inside. The play equipment is designed for walking through 4 years of age.
Friday Night "Date Night Child Care"

The Newport Recreation Center is pleased to announce the addition of Friday evening child care. Children can play board or computer games, do puzzles, or work on their homework. There will be a variety of recreational activities including movies and popcorn. We have activities for all! Drop ins welcome. Space is limited; first come first served.
"School's Out" After School Youth Activity Program
September 10, 2009 - June 16, 2010
3:00 – 5:30 p.m.
$90/month (does not include non-school days) or $7.00/day
Non-School Days 7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
$11.00/half day (up to 5hrs) $20.00/full day
This is a supervised program offered every school day and on non-school days for children enrolled in 1st through 5th grades. On school days, the school bus will transport children from Sam Case to the Newport Recreation Center. Activities include art, crafts, games, story telling, and gym activities such as scooter boards, basketball, soccer, and teamwork activities.
