South Beach Peninsula Transportation Connections Project

The South Beach Peninsula area is the focus of much attention of late in light of the pending arrival of the NOAA Pacific Marine Operations Center, potential expansion of the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODF&W) facility at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC), and private investments that are likely to follow. In anticipation of these and future projects and the street and circulation improvements that will be necessary, the City, the Port of Newport, and HMSC recognize that there is a window of opportunity to plan for a well connected transportation system so that construction of these improvements will be coordinated.

With that in mind, the City of Newport, with the support of its partners, has obtained funding from the State of Oregon's Transportation and Growth Management Program to retain a consulting team, led by SERA Architects, to assist in evaluating the South Beach Peninsula area's transportation network. Part of that process includes soliciting citizen input through holding public workshops. Please keep your eye on this page for notice of public workshops and for information on the overall process as it unfolds.

For additional information please contact Community Development Director Derrick Tokos.
