Newport Fire Department maintains three facilities. Station One is centrally located in Newport and houses 4 engines, a tender, a rescue, a heavy rescue, and several support rigs. The administrative and training offices are also located at Station 1. Station 10 covers our district south of the Yaquina Bay bridge, and is located at the Newport Municipal Airport. Station 10 houses one fire engine and one aircraft crash truck. NFD's newest addition is the Training Facility, on the site of the former wastewater treatment plant. Completion of the training tower marks completion of the first phase of this project. This project is the first in the nation to recycle a wastewater plant for continued municipal use. |

What's New At Newport Fire
NFD recently ordered a new 104' Aerial Truck from HME. Delivery is set for late 2010. The order was coupled with Corvalis Fire's newest delivery, seen above, with some changes to better meet the challenges in our community. Newport Fire Department solemnly observed the eigth anniversary of 9-11 by displaying the flag at half staff from Aerial Two at City Hall on Friday, and gathering to observe a moment of silence to remember the 343 firefighters who gave thier lives protecting others on September 11th, 2001. The budget has been approved to purchase a new Aerial Apparatus and Water Tender, both replacing decades-old equipment. The selection and evaluation process is ongoing. Thanks to all those who joined us for the Training Tower open house on September 23rd. Visitors got a chance to tour the tower and see firsthand what years of fundraising across the community has biult. Local firemen, members of the public, and firefighters from other county departments all attended - thank you.

Burn To Learn Newport Fire recently conducted a training burn on a house scheduled for demolition. Firefighters were trained in Fire Behavior, Interior Attack, and Defensive Exterior Attack. 23 firefighters participated in the training, and neighbors and the family of the property owners witnessed the training evolution from a safe distance. Multiple interior fires, or burn 'sets', were lit and then extinguished inside the structure. This technique allows all of the available firefighters a chance to see a fire biuld and use the best interior attack methods to extinguish it. After the training is complete, the house is allowed to burn to the ground. |

The next morning, all that was left was the foundation and sheet metal roof. Donating a home for 'burn-to-learn' use saves the homeowner a considerable amount on demolition and removal costs, and provides a valuable 'real world' experience for new firefighters. If you have a home you would like to donate, give us a call at 265-9461. |
